received a telegram from the Governor

of Hong Kong in which he requests to be

informed of the terms and date of Sir

Charles Eliot's appointment in Siberia.

Sir F. H. May adds that it must be

clearly understood that whilst Sir

Charles Eliot is seconded the University

of Hong Kong cannot pay him any salary.

Mr. Long will be glad to learn what

reply should be returned to Sir F. H.
